Students pursuing graduate studies in rhetoric and composition complete foundational coursework covering composition theory, rhetorical analysis, literacy research, and methodological approaches. These required courses are enhanced by diverse elective offerings exploring areas like public rhetoric, genre studies, racial perspectives in writing, gendered approaches to composition, and digital writing technologies. The English Department provides additional flexibility through its comprehensive graduate curriculum in literature, cultural studies, creative writing, and American Studies, enabling students to tailor their academic path and research focus.

Qualification Requirements
Prior to their anticipated start date, applicants must complete a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association, or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
