The Master of Social Work (MSW) program offers an advanced generalist curriculum focused on serving rural and Indigenous populations. Students learn to cultivate a professional, empathetic approach to ethical social work practice.
The MSW Program aims to:
1. Equip graduates for professional practice that addresses the unique needs and assets of rural regions and Indigenous groups.
2. Examine social issues through interconnected local, historical, and global lenses.
This program trains students in advanced generalist methods that employ comprehensive, multi-level strategies. Practitioners and clients collaborate to strengthen systems by leveraging existing capabilities and fostering resilience.
Participants establish a practice framework rooted in ethical principles and personal values. Core concepts including cultural humility, empowerment, collaborative relationships, critical analysis, and advocacy for social justice form the basis for developing professional social work skills at Cal Poly Humboldt.
