Wildlife biology explores living organisms, their behaviors, ecosystems, habitats, and conservation strategies. USW's distinctive International Wildlife Biology program allows you to examine and analyze biological mechanisms and relationships that shape species diversity and distribution, their adaptations to environmental factors, and how to apply modern scientific approaches to wildlife research and conservation in evolving global ecosystems. This International Wildlife Biology course emphasizes hands-on fieldwork, offering immersive learning experiences across three continents. A mandatory part of the program involves studying wildlife and ecosystems in South Africa. Additionally, you'll refine your scientific expertise through UK-based field excursions and can choose to practice research methods in the tropical forests and coral reefs of Asia or Central America. Key topics include tracking large game, conservation genetics, wildlife management, ecological studies, vertebrate zoology, and aquatic biology.
The BSc (Hons) International Wildlife Biology degree provides comprehensive training in both traditional and cutting-edge laboratory, field, analytical, and research techniques, preparing you for careers in ecological consulting, wildlife conservation, education, or advanced academic pursuits. This program also develops versatile skills applicable to various other professions. Numerous alumni continue their education with a research-based Master's or PhD at our institution.
