The 20th century brought profound transformations to Central and Eastern European nations, marked by conflict, upheaval, and sweeping societal shifts. The fall of communist regimes created lasting challenges that persist across the region. Our exploration spans from the Baltic states to the Balkan Peninsula and from Germany's capital to Russia's far east, examining critical developments in this significant territory. As a recognized Center of Excellence for Russian, Central & East European Studies supported by government funding, the University organizes year-round cultural and academic activities. While optional, students can choose to learn Hungarian, Czech, Polish, or Russian languages.
Glasgow University's Q-Step Center provides specialized programs to strengthen quantitative abilities - equipping students to interpret data and utilize statistical evidence effectively. Mastering these analytical skills deepens comprehension of core subjects within any academic discipline.
Within the School of Social and Political Sciences, Glasgow's Q-Step Center delivers five degree programs incorporating quantitative methodology training. These courses foster meaningful engagement with social phenomena, teaching students to evaluate statistical findings, present original research, and discuss real-world implications. Such competencies prove invaluable for interpreting academic publications, media reports, and government statistics. Approximately 25% of coursework focuses on quantitative approaches, with opportunities for professional internships at leading organizations.
Recent expansions of the EU and NATO into Eastern Europe, coupled with evolving situations in Russia, Ukraine, former Soviet republics, and the Balkans, have generated strong demand for regional experts. Alumni have established careers in EU institutions, diplomatic services, humanitarian agencies, media outlets, and international corporations.
