Lancaster's combined German Studies and Philosophy program is delivered through a collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion (PPR).
The German Studies component enables you to develop advanced language proficiency while gaining comprehensive insight into Germany's historical, cultural, social, and political landscape within a global framework. In Philosophy, we guide you in forming your own analytical viewpoints on philosophical issues, equipping you with diverse methodologies for examining, critically evaluating, and debating these concepts.
During your first year, you'll examine both the German language within its cultural setting and fundamental philosophical challenges along with their corresponding theoretical solutions. Additionally, you'll pursue a complementary minor subject to enhance your primary studies.
In your second year, you'll advance your linguistic abilities while delving deeper into the culture, politics, and history of German-speaking nations. You'll also choose from modules with an international focus that foster comparative perspectives on Europe and global contexts.
