The School of Modern Languages provides opportunities to pursue a PhD or MPhil in French Studies. With a strong history of supporting postgraduate scholars, the School ensures each student receives personalized supervision (with one or two advisors) based on their research focus. Students enjoy comprehensive access to computing resources (including translation software), library collections, and all School facilities such as the film archive. A designated postgraduate workspace is available for regular use.

PhD duration: 3-4 years full-time or 6 years part-time; MPhil duration: 2 years full-time or 3 years part-time.

Applicants should normally have a first or upper second class honours undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in a relevant subject. Non-native speakers of English will normally be required to have IELTS 6.5 or above (no element below 6.0).
