Pursuing a PhD in the School of Politics and International Studies enables you to specialize in a particular field, refine advanced research capabilities, and boost your career growth. This program prepares you for professional research roles both inside and outside academia. As a doctoral student, you'll undertake innovative research with support from two supervisors, culminating in an original dissertation of around 100,000 words. Initially, you'll enroll as a provisional PhD candidate for twelve months (or eighteen months if studying part-time). During this phase, you'll complete our Foundations in Postgraduate Research orientation and customized research training. You'll craft a comprehensive research plan and produce a literature review chapter, which is then evaluated by an examination panel offering feedback and guidance on your research trajectory.
