The MA in Performance & Musicology program caters to students excelling in performance who seek to expand and enhance their abilities. This specialized track is structured to cultivate advanced competencies in both performance and musicology at the graduate level. Students strengthen their research capabilities through a thesis project that connects directly to their culminating recital. These academic pursuits unfold within the vibrant setting of the Music Department, renowned for its expertise in musicology, performance, composition, and music technology.
Normally a minimum II.1 honours degree in music is required. Applicants without this prerequisite qualification will be requested to provide additional evidence of to demonstrate equivalent skills in performance and musicology.
International applicants must have a recognized primary degree considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate in audition and interview a standard on proposed principal instrument/voice equivalent to a minimum of a high II.1 Irish university bachelor degree. The audition should consist of c. 20 minutes of contrasting music. Vocalists are expected to demonstrate the ability to sing in three languages. Copies of music to be provided for examining panel along with listed programme.
IELTS - 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each band; TOEFL internet-based test iBT: 90 with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in all other sections; Pearson Test of English - 63 with no less than 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section; Duolingo English Test (DET) - 120 with no less than 110 in literacy, conversation, and comprehension subscores and no less than 95 in production. (This lower production subscore applies to non-EU applicants only), Cambridge Proficiency Cert. - 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English. Proficiency Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2); Cambridge Advanced Cert. - 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English Advanced Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2); ETAPP - C1 or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2); Oxford Test of English - 140 with no less than 125 in each skill; Trinity College London ISE - ISE III with at least merit in each skill category.
