The Philosophy Department provides multiple undergraduate major and minor options, a one-year Master's program, and two doctoral tracks: a traditional PhD in Philosophy and an innovative PhD in Applied Philosophy. Our Applied Philosophy doctorate is a recently launched program emphasizing practical engagement with real-world challenges. Additional details are available in our informational brochure. Department faculty actively collaborate with experts across disciplines including STEM fields, social sciences, history, and engineering. These cross-disciplinary partnerships foster fresh philosophical insights and enhance our participation in academic discourse. Applied Philosophy doctoral candidates complete coursework during their initial two years, specialize in a research concentration, undertake an off-campus Applied Research Placement with a partner institution, develop and defend a dissertation proposal, and ultimately finish their dissertation project - which may incorporate practical applications alongside theoretical components.
