Our language-focused program prioritizes Spanish proficiency, covering comprehension, conversation, reading, and writing, with specialized offerings in business and translation. The Waterloo Hispanic club provides opportunities to hone conversational abilities with fellow students. Another option is specializing in Latin American Literatures and Cultures, where you'll explore the region's key literary and cultural movements from ancient times to modernity while building robust research capabilities. A Spanish degree unlocks diverse career paths post-graduation, spanning business, education, international relations, and global development. Enhance your qualifications by gaining practical experience through co-op placements. Many of our students pursue Honours or Majors in Spanish, while others combine it with other disciplines through double honours. We offer both 3-year General and 4-year degree options, with flexibility to select language-based or literature-focused courses—the latter allowing specialization in either Latin American or Peninsular literature. The Honours program permits Spanish as a standalone discipline or paired with another field, including through the Arts and Business co-op stream.
