The Hispanic and Latin American Studies program delivers an in-depth exploration of Iberian (Spanish and Portuguese) and Latin American cultures. Participants develop strong language skills and gain comprehensive insights into these literary traditions, languages, and cultural contexts through a transnational, interdisciplinary lens. The HLAS curriculum features diverse courses that broaden students' academic perspectives while enabling interdisciplinary learning. Most HLAS students pursue dual degrees, combining their studies with majors or minors in other languages, linguistics, or various disciplines, including specializations in Romance Linguistics or Spanish and Comparative Studies in Romance Literatures and Cultures. This program prepares graduates with both theoretical knowledge and practical abilities for advanced academic research or professional careers. Our instructional approach blends traditional lectures with digital learning components, small-group sessions, and hands-on applications through internships and community engagement initiatives.
