Our language-focused program prioritizes achieving fluency in Spanish, covering comprehension, conversation, reading, and writing, with specialized courses in business communication and translation. Additionally, Waterloo's Hispanic student organization provides opportunities to hone conversational abilities with fellow learners. Another option is to concentrate on Latin American Literature and Culture, where you'll explore significant literary movements and cultural developments across Latin America from ancient civilizations to modern times, while simultaneously building advanced research capabilities. After graduation, your Spanish degree unlocks diverse career paths in fields like commerce, education, diplomacy, and global development. Enhance your qualifications by gaining practical experience through co-op placements. The majority of our students pursue Honours or Majors degrees in Spanish, while some combine it with other disciplines through double honours programs. We provide both 3-year General and 4-year degree options, allowing students to select either language-intensive or literature-focused coursework - with literature students able to specialize in either Latin American or Peninsular literary studies. The Honours program offers single-discipline Spanish studies or combined honours with other subjects, including an Honours Major in Spanish through the cooperative Arts and Business program.
