Our language-focused program prioritizes achieving fluency in Spanish, covering comprehension, conversation, reading, and writing, with specialized offerings for business and translation studies. Additionally, Waterloo's Hispanic student organization provides opportunities to hone conversational abilities with fellow learners. Another option is specializing in Latin American Literature and Culture, where you'll explore significant literary and cultural movements across Latin America from ancient civilizations to modern times while refining your research capabilities. After graduation, your Spanish degree unlocks diverse career paths in fields like commerce, education, global affairs, and international aid. Enhance your qualifications by gaining practical experience through co-op placements. The majority of our students pursue Honours or Majors in Spanish, while some combine it with other disciplines through double honours programs. We provide both 3-year General and 4-year degree options, allowing students to select either language-based or literature-focused coursework - the latter offering concentrations in either Latin American or Peninsular literature. Honours students can specialize solely in Spanish or pair it with another field, and may also pursue an Honours Major in Spanish through the Arts and Business co-op program.
