The World Languages & Cultures (WLC) Department at Trinity Western University, together with the Department of Linguistics, provides a bachelor's degree program in language and linguistics. This BA program allows students to select linguistics courses alongside one of the languages offered by WLC: French, Spanish, or Chinese. To fulfill the major requirements (42 semester hours), students pursue a minor (24 s.h.) in either linguistics or their chosen language, complemented by 18 s.h. in the alternate discipline. Those wishing to minor in both areas can do so by taking 6 additional s.h. within their general electives. Combining rigorous language and cultural studies with fundamental linguistics training equips students to become language experts, capable of analyzing their target language's complexities and applying these skills to learn additional languages. Graduates can pursue careers in translation, intercultural communication, global development, language preservation, or speech therapy. This undergraduate program also serves as strong preparation for Trinity Western's graduate offerings, including the MA in Linguistics through the Faculty of Graduate Studies or the MA in Linguistics and Translation through the Graduate School of Theological Studies.
