This degree program, tailored for active educators, quickly reaches capacity. It serves as a professional qualification for individuals seeking to enhance their skills in teaching studio-based art activities across elementary, secondary, and community educational environments.
This intensive two-year studio program requires participants to dedicate two summers to personal artistic growth within collaborative studio spaces. Independent creative investigations continue during fall and spring terms at off-campus locations. Candidates should demonstrate strong art education backgrounds and submit portfolios of original artwork.
Program participants will: cultivate a dynamic studio practice to strengthen their artist-educator identity
integrate studio work with teaching theory, positioning their artistic/educational approach within current and historical art education discourse
create a research-based project aligning their artistic/teaching practice with art education scholarship
establish relationships between their creative/teaching methods and those of fellow artist-educators (within their cohort and the broader art education field)
The Department of Curriculum & Instruction provides graduate studies at both Master's and Doctoral levels. We feature flexible full-time and part-time options, available on-campus and at various community sites. Our department includes 28 dedicated faculty members and provides outstanding research assistant positions and teaching experiences with internationally recognized scholars.
Our MA and PhD programs concentrate on educational research, with curriculum designed to establish core knowledge before specializing in specific research areas. Due to limited faculty availability, prospective students should consult with the Graduate Advisor or Secretary about potential supervision opportunities. Review faculty profiles to understand their specialized knowledge and research focus.
We additionally provide M.Ed. Professional degrees customized to participants' geographic locations and research priorities. These programs employ in-person, online, and blended learning formats to deliver advanced training in curriculum leadership. New cohort options are announced each August for the subsequent summer term. Consult program websites annually for current cohort availability as offerings vary.
