UBC's Music Education graduate programs cater to diverse professional aspirations, serving classroom teachers, academic researchers, school administrators, curriculum designers, and aspiring professors. The program offers focused study areas such as conducting techniques, teaching methodologies, early childhood music instruction, educational program design, cultural music studies, multimedia applications, music technology integration, and educator preparation. Our faculty bring multifaceted expertise to their research, employing both qualitative approaches (drawing from philosophical, historical, psychological, sociological, artistic, and a/r/tographic frameworks) and quantitative methods (including experimental studies, survey analysis, and complex statistical modeling). Students benefit from access to interdisciplinary courses university-wide, with strong emphasis placed on collaborative learning across academic departments.
One to two years’ of teacher education; or a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Education. In special circumstances teacher education may be waived for those applicants who have a university degree with sufficient standing and experience related to their proposed field of study.
