Saskatchewan earns its reputation as Canada's "bread basket" due to its leading role in agricultural production and its advancements in agro-biological research and biotechnology. These fields broaden agriculture's reach into food and bioproduct development. The Food and Bioproducts Sciences Department focuses on two key research areas: food science and applied microbiology. Food Science integrates concepts from chemistry, biology, microbiology, and engineering to examine food properties, advance food processing techniques, and explore agricultural material applications beyond food.
