The PhD in Population Health Studies is an interdisciplinary program offered collaboratively by the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Science. Typically, students in this program receive guidance from faculty members specializing in both Health Sciences and Social Sciences.

Enrolled in Population Health Studies, students explore how living and working environments influence the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities. The program primarily concentrates on:

Analyzing multifaceted structural elements and available resources that affect health equality
Students will engage with theoretical models related to population health status, encompassing social and environmental health determinants.

Investigating community and healthcare system features along with policy landscapes to understand health resource allocation and effectiveness in tackling public health issues
This scientific, methodical approach to population health research deepens our comprehension of health and disease complexities while developing solutions for health challenges. Beyond studying health risks and deficiencies, population research can uncover methods to preserve or improve wellbeing. Analyzing environmental factors assists policymakers in assessing strategy applicability across comparable populations.

The Population Health Studies major requires a thesis. Students' academic journeys combine their chosen specialization with coordinated research, comprehensive exams, and coursework focused on their concentration's key themes and specific research questions. Based on prior education, students may need to complete up to six courses, delivered through customized independent studies aligned with their specialization and existing graduate courses in health and social sciences.
