The Geography PhD program is delivered through the collaborative Waterloo-Laurier Graduate Program in Geography. This unique partnership enables students to investigate diverse research areas, spanning critical social and environmental challenges to fundamental philosophical and technical inquiries.
Our Geography PhD aims to equip students with comprehensive theoretical and applied geographical knowledge via coursework and seminars, teaching experience through assistantships and lectures, plus foundational research skills and technical proficiency via independent projects and research roles. Consequently, our alumni develop independent capabilities in teaching, research, and academic publishing.
Career Paths
Our doctoral alumni have secured faculty appointments (including at University of Toronto – Mississauga, University of Winnipeg, University of Ottawa, York University, Brock University, Okanagan College, University of Saskatchewan), university administrative roles, postdoctoral fellowships, and research positions (with organizations like the American Association of Geographers, conservation authorities, and Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources)
