Our program immerses students in independent research while expanding their engagement with a chosen Geography specialization. Research opportunities span these key thematic areas: Biogeography, Climatology, Economic Geography, Environmental Sustainability, Feminist Geography, GIS, Geomorphology, Historical Geography, Hydrology and Glaciology, Indigenous Geographies, Political Geography, Social/Cultural Geography, and Urban Geography.
The PhD program offers adaptable, research-focused study guided by student interests. Participants from diverse academic backgrounds receive mentorship from leading experts in geographical sciences, human geography, and computational geography. Graduates develop specialized research skills that prepare them for academic, governmental, corporate, or nonprofit careers.
