The Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Graduate Program provides thesis-based MSc and PhD degrees under the guidance of Dr. Ezekiel Weis, a University of Alberta Professor. Graduate students in our program are empowered to pursue innovative, interdisciplinary research aimed at enhancing patient-focused eye care. Students gain access to state-of-the-art on-campus research labs, along with multiple off-campus facilities and teaching locations. Our department offers MSc and PhD degrees in Medical Sciences (Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences), available both as postgraduate training for medical graduates and as standalone programs for bachelor's degree holders. Research opportunities span diverse ophthalmology fields where faculty maintain active projects, with key focus areas including visual electrophysiology, retinal degeneration models and treatments, eye anatomy, and ocular genetics.
