To earn an MSc degree, candidates must successfully complete a thesis proposal, write their thesis, and defend it. Additionally, they must fulfill all coursework obligations. Each student is assigned an Advisory Committee that offers support, guidance, and monitors progress to facilitate degree completion. Full-time MSc students must present their proposed thesis research to their advisory committee by the end of their third term (sixth term for part-time students). The minimum full-time enrollment requirement is 2 terms, with a maximum duration of 6 terms (2 years). Students needing extra time must submit a Petition of Extension with a proposed completion timeline. The University of Waterloo's School of Optometry and Vision Science is Canada's sole provider of English-language optometric training for an accredited Doctor of Optometry degree. The school also offers graduate programs in Vision Science and Optometry, complemented by extensive clinical programs that provide hands-on training for students and healthcare services to the community.
