Building on our distinctive expertise in interdisciplinary Russian cultural studies, the Department provides diverse pathways for earning a Ph.D. Our main program focuses on Russian literature and culture, highlighting transnational and transmedial perspectives. Additionally, we offer a joint degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures combined with Film and Media Studies. Through special agreements, the Department may approve customized interdisciplinary programs with other departments. Prospective students considering such options should consult with the Slavic Director of Graduate Studies during the application process or early in their studies. Yale's graduate programs include various certificate options, including Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Film and Media Studies; Translation Studies; Environmental Humanities; and area studies through the MacMillan Center. Graduate students may also pursue certificates in College Teaching Preparation or Second Language Acquisition. A full listing of certificate programs is available on the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences website.
