The doctoral program in Hispanic and Lusophone literatures, cultures, and linguistics offers an intensive four-year curriculum (for students holding a master's degree) that delivers specialized training in the languages, literatures, and cultural studies of Spain and Latin America. Doctoral candidates are required to produce original scholarly work that advances knowledge in their chosen specialization. This degree certifies exceptional expertise in a specific discipline, verified through comprehensive examinations and the successful defense of an innovative dissertation that contributes substantially to the field. The program features four concentration areas: Spanish peninsular studies, Spanish American studies, Lusophone literatures and cultures, and Hispanic linguistics. While students engage with all departmental disciplines, their primary focus remains on their selected specialization.
