African American Studies provides an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in collaboration with various departments. Current partner departments for joint Ph.D. programs include: American Studies, Anthropology, English, Film and Media Studies, French, History, Art History, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, Spanish and Portuguese, and WGSS. Students work with graduate advisors from both African American Studies and their chosen discipline to define their specialized focus area.
