Our PhD candidates receive guidance from an extensive network of core and affiliated faculty in Comparative Literature. Faculty members maintain joint appointments with departments including East Asian Languages and Cultures, English, French and Italian, German and Russian, Middle East/South Asian Languages, and Religious Studies. The program fosters partnerships with interdisciplinary initiatives in critical theory, digital humanities, science and technology studies, cinema and media, and performance studies. The Designated Emphasis in African American and African Studies enhances students' comprehension of historical and contemporary research in these fields. It creates an institutional framework to unite students and faculty engaged in African American and African Studies research, facilitating interaction and collaboration that extends beyond their primary departmental affiliations across UC Davis.
