The American Studies curriculum fosters cross-disciplinary exploration of U.S. cultures and political systems, evolving concepts of national identity, and the development of borderland and diasporic communities throughout history. Majors blend American Studies courses with related subjects (including literature, history, arts, and social sciences) to examine these themes through local, national, and international lenses. By choosing a specialization area, students create an academic focus within their major. The program supports innovative interdisciplinary research while maintaining rigorous expectations for foundational knowledge of U.S. history and culture. Prospective majors should schedule early advising sessions with the director of undergraduate studies (DUS).
