The Secondary Education Education Specialist program (previously known as the certificate of advanced graduate studies) at Worcester State University provides graduate-level education studies with subject-specific concentrations for educators teaching grades 5-12, curriculum specialists, international scholars, and individuals pursuing educational research—all holding a master's degree in education, a related discipline, or a field aligned with their teaching certification.

This program features diverse specialization options such as bilingual/multicultural education, ESL, biology, educational administration, English, history, humanities, international/comparative education, mathematics, content-area multiliteracies, technology and visual literacy, reading, Spanish, and STEM education.

It allows you to design a customized curriculum tailored to your professional aspirations. Additionally, the program supports flexible career advancement through full-time or part-time enrollment options, with courses available in various formats including traditional classroom settings, online delivery, and blended approaches. You'll collaborate with faculty mentors while developing original research in your chosen specialization.

Qualification Requirements

In addition to the general admission requirements, candidates for the Education Specialist in Secondary Education program will be required to meet the competencies established by the graduate program for all candidates seeking education specialist credentials at Worcester State. In addition, students will be required to demonstrate evidence of an earned master of education or a master's degree in related field with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Official transcripts with a calculated GPA for the institution that awarded your baccalaureate degree, Official transcripts of each graduate institution awarding degree(s) or course credit beyond a baccalaureate degree (if applicable).

Applicants from countries outside of the United States in which English is not the language of instruction, must also submit a score of 79 or above on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), a score of 6.5 or above on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a score of 100 or above on the Duolingo Test, a score of 59 or above on the Pearson PTE test, or a score of 4 or above on the International English Language Proficiency Test (iTEP). A waiver of this requirement may be available for IELI Bridge to University graduate-level students.
