The Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP) offers a rigorous one-year Master's in Teaching degree with certification options for secondary education in mathematics, sciences, social studies, English, or world languages. Our program equips educators to empower diverse middle and high school students through an educational equity framework.
STEP participants benefit from personalized guidance and hands-on classroom experience. This collaborative program commences in spring quarter and culminates with immersive student teaching during winter, strategically timed with hiring periods. Many graduates secure substitute teaching positions in spring or pursue supplementary certifications in ELL instruction and Computer Science Education.

The UW Graduate School requires a cumulative GPA of 3.0, or 3.0 for your most recent 90 graded quarter credits (60 semester credits). However, we review your application holistically. During the online application process, you will be given instructions for adding your recommenders and getting their letters submitted electronically.
