This program provides an exceptional chance to obtain both a 6-12 teaching certification and a master's degree through an intensive 13-month cohort model. The curriculum features engaging, contemporary content with an emphasis on culturally responsive teaching methods, where full-time professors demonstrate student-focused instructional approaches. Participants learn within a collaborative cohort environment that fosters mutual support. A comprehensive year-long internship offers personalized guidance from both mentor teachers and program instructors. Aspiring secondary educators can join through two primary pathways: either through WMU's pre-education undergraduate content degree with an education specialization, or by holding a content degree from WMU or another accredited institution.
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) for Secondary Education is a rigorous thirteen-month cohort program combining educational theory, teaching methods coursework, and an extensive clinical placement in area schools.
