The MEd in Secondary Education is a one-year graduate program designed to equip you for teaching high school students. Whether you aspire to teach in Chicago, another urban center, or a rural setting, you'll develop the hands-on abilities and ethical foundation needed to guide young people during their pivotal developmental years. Through Loyola University Chicago's deep connections with local schools, this immersive program places you in real Chicago classrooms from the start, allowing you to learn from experienced educators while immediately impacting students' lives. This 36-credit, field-intensive master's program holds accreditation from both the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
You'll apply educational theories and research-based methods to inform classroom decisions, using data to shape instruction and evaluate learning outcomes. The program also provides significant experience working with diverse student groups, including English language learners, and offers the chance to obtain secondary teaching certifications in these disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Mathematics, History, Political Science, and Psychology.
