Western Michigan University's College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) introduced a groundbreaking doctoral program in Education and Human Development (Ph.D. in EHD) during fall 2016. This Ph.D. initiative closely aligns with WMU's strategic objectives as a premier research institution and enhances its scholarly mission. Students can engage in doctoral studies across various specialized fields within CEHD.
The program stands out with several distinctive features:
Blending the US coursework-based approach with Europe's research-intensive model, this program adopts a master-apprentice framework for doctoral training.
Prospective students are required to hold a master's degree in their chosen specialization area.
A significant focus will be placed on academic research initiatives completed alongside faculty advisors within the specialization (21 credits in the focus area).
With advisor approval, candidates may enroll in relevant courses at WMU and collaborating institutions to deepen their subject expertise.
A master's degree in the emphasis or related area, with a minimum of 3.25 GPA.
Graduate Record Examination scores, with such scores above the 50th percentile on Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytic Writing preferred.
