The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Alternative Teacher Licensure program spans two years as a residency initiative. Participants are employed by school districts under provisional teaching licenses, serving as instructors while completing coursework through the School of Education. Upon successful completion, candidates receive both a Professional Educator License and a MAT degree. Western Illinois University's School of Education currently provides this program for K-21 Special Education, Secondary Mathematics, Secondary Science, Elementary Education, and Secondary English pathways.

Hold a degree comparable to a recognized U.S. bachelor's degree.
