The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in elementary education enables you to earn licensure for teaching grades K-8. This program caters to career changers holding degrees in non-education fields who wish to transition into teaching. The M.Ed. in elementary education accepts applicants with either education backgrounds or degrees in other disciplines through Washoe County School District's Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) pathway. Successful completion qualifies graduates to teach in elementary and middle schools (K-8). Depending on prior academic experience, some undergraduate prerequisite courses may be required.
The curriculum equips future educators with comprehensive knowledge of subject matter, teaching methodologies, and instructional approaches suitable for K-8 classrooms.
Graduates will develop skills to support diverse learners in K-8 environments by employing differentiated instructional techniques.
Participants will master national, state, and local educational standards, learning to design varied instructional methods and assessments that effectively measure student progress across subject areas.
