The Master of Arts in Political Science (M.A.) program caters to students holding a bachelor's degree who seek to further their political science education. This degree equips graduates for diverse career paths in government, education, policy advocacy, and nonprofit organizations.
The 33-credit curriculum includes a three-credit master's thesis requirement. Both full-time and part-time enrollment options are available, with most students finishing within two to three years. Graduates often pursue doctoral studies afterward. Limited partial tuition scholarships exist for qualified candidates, including the Graduate Professional Scholarship, CLAS scholarships, and AGRADE scholarships for eligible Wayne State undergraduates.
Students can focus their studies in one of six concentrations: American government, comparative politics, political theory, public policy, urban politics, or world politics. The program emphasizes advanced analytical and methodological training while offering benefits like small classes, a multicultural environment, distinguished faculty, and access to an influential alumni network.
