The Master of Arts (MA) program is designed for individuals aiming for careers in public service or planning to continue toward a PhD, whether at the University of Alabama or elsewhere. MA candidates enroll in many courses alongside PhD students, usually finishing their degree within two years. The Political Science Department provides two distinct tracks for earning an MA, outlined under the Requirements section. MA participants must adhere to all policies outlined in this handbook and the University's Graduate Catalog.

Qualification Requirements
Each international applicant must hold the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution to be eligible for graduate admission. While individual departments may have more stringent requirements, bachelor degrees from Bologna Accord certified institutions are considered to meet this criterion. We do also consider Indian three-year degrees to be equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree.
