The Master of Public Policy (MPP) program at the Trachtenberg School equips students to thoroughly analyze data and examine the foundational theories influencing public policy that governs societies globally.
Beyond required courses, MPP and MPA candidates select a specialized study area aligned with their professional goals, choosing from predefined tracks or crafting a customized path with faculty guidance. Every TSPPPA graduate student undertakes a culminating capstone project for a real-world client.
This curriculum develops proficiency where governance, policy, and management intersect. The program prepares graduates to operate seamlessly across public, private, and nonprofit spheres, as well as various government levels (federal, state, municipal), with adaptable skill sets. Due to the field's expansive nature, students collaborate with advisors to tailor coursework to specific interests. Options include concentrating on governmental operations (executive/legislative branches) or administrative systems (regulatory affairs, procurement). Learners might blend political and managerial approaches or emphasize advocacy strategies, public communication, or community involvement. Recent undergraduates gain exposure to diverse public service pathways, while experienced professionals can systematically study governance mechanisms they've encountered or pivot to new specializations building on their background. Supplementary coursework from related disciplines further enhances this academic track.
