The Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering provides Master of Science programs in both Aerospace Engineering and Ocean Engineering. These degrees offer two pathways: one with a thesis requirement and one without. While both paths demand equal credit hours for completion, the thesis track allocates some credits to research work. The non-thesis alternative can be fulfilled through coursework alone or may incorporate a project and report, typically focused on practical engineering challenges rather than research, often involving collaborative student teams.
To prepare graduates for interdisciplinary collaboration, all students must complete coursework covering aerodynamics, structures, flight mechanics and control, and numerical methods. Non-thesis candidates pursue additional specialized courses in their chosen field. The program enables students to engage in cutting-edge research across these core disciplines and interdisciplinary domains requiring multi-field expertise. This training positions graduates to meet the increasing industry need for versatile engineers and scientists with broad technical capabilities.
