Our graduate program offers students comprehensive training in political science, equipping them with a solid foundation in both the discipline and social science research methods. The Master of Arts curriculum spans all major subfields, preparing graduates for academic careers, government roles, or advanced doctoral studies. Alumni have secured positions in government agencies, political groups, and pursued further education through Virginia Tech's ASPECT program and other PhD opportunities.
Launched in 1969, the Political Science M.A. program typically hosts 10-15 on-campus students annually, alongside about 60-70 distance learners in our online Master of Arts in Political Science (OLMA/PSCI).
With intentionally limited enrollment, both our residential and online programs foster meaningful collaboration between students and faculty.
Blacksburg campus students enjoy full access to university resources, from our extensive library to tech support and the Graduate Life Center for those living on-site.
Online M.A. candidates complete their coursework through our asynchronous digital learning platform, offering flexibility for remote study.
