Our life sciences department strives for research excellence across all biological scales—from molecular and cellular levels to entire organisms and ecosystems. We draw upon our varied expertise to guide and educate undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers through hands-on laboratory experiences. Our mission is to equip today's trainees to become future leaders in research, healthcare, education, and public policy.
The Biological Sciences graduate program equips students for careers in both research and academia. Through a combination of coursework, seminars, and dissertation work, students develop critical thinking abilities and technical proficiency.
Given biology's vast scope—spanning molecules to ecosystems—our faculty's research focuses and course offerings reflect remarkable diversity. The program emphasizes flexibility, enabling students to tailor their studies by selecting specialized courses within Biological Sciences or across the Medical School and College of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, graduate students gain teaching experience by serving as teaching assistants during their training.
