The Master of Science in Biology program delivers comprehensive training in biological sciences, equipping students for advanced graduate studies or careers in research and education. The curriculum features three flexible pathways: coursework-focused, scholarly paper, and research thesis options. Each track leads to a master's degree, achievable within 1-2 years, with financial support opportunities. Faculty mentors are assigned to guide students through their academic journey.
Degree requirements: All pathways mandate completion of eight 500-level courses (32 credits) while maintaining a 3.0 GPA minimum. Faculty advisors are assigned during the initial semester.
The Biology Department provides three degree pathways: coursework-based, scholarly paper option, and research thesis program. The coursework track spans one year, while the scholarly paper option extends through a year plus summer. The research thesis typically requires two years. Across all options, students receive specialized faculty advisors in their chosen biological subfield during their first term.
Learning outcomes: Biology MS graduates develop specialized knowledge in selected disciplines - cellular & molecular biology, neurobiology, or ecology & evolution. They master research techniques and scientific literature evaluation, preparing them for doctoral programs or research-intensive professions requiring analytical expertise.
