To equip students with an extensive understanding of social/behavioral science principles relevant to helping professions, with particular focus on developmental psychology across the lifespan.
To develop essential counseling competencies including individual therapy techniques, supervision methods, psychological testing, consultation practices, group facilitation, clinical interviewing, diagnostic procedures, and evaluation strategies.
To familiarize students with operational structures of human service organizations and educational institutions, while clarifying counselors' professional responsibilities regarding personal/social development, career guidance, and academic support.
To train students in research methodologies and assessment instruments applicable to service delivery in community agencies, schools, and corporate environments.
To expose students to diverse client populations they'll encounter professionally, encourage self-reflection about personal biases, and offer practical experience working with varied groups—enhancing cultural competence for ethical practice with all individuals.
