The Department of Human Development & Family Science (HDFS) provides a Master's program in Human Development & Family Science. This graduate degree prepares students for professional opportunities in academia, government institutions, and private industry.
Some graduates choose to further their studies through doctoral programs, while others enter fields such as college teaching, policy development, and organizations supporting youth and family services.
Our professors focus on diverse research areas and maintain interdisciplinary collaborations. While both thesis and non-thesis options exist, initial admission is to the non-thesis path. Students may apply to transition to the thesis track after their first term, pending satisfactory academic performance and advisor approval. Non-thesis candidates must undertake a 3-credit capstone project during their final semester as a culminating experience.
An upper-division undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The same scale applies for graduate-level work.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
International students must have an official TOEFL score of at least 80 (TOEFL iBT) or 550 (paper-delivered) to meet university requirements. Our department does not accept other English proficiency examinations (i.e. IELTS).
