Individuals completing degrees in early childhood education become eligible to teach in preschool environments and can obtain certification for instructing children from kindergarten through third grade. The curriculum provides comprehensive foundational knowledge in early childhood education topics, followed by specialized concentration areas for deeper study. While learners may select multiple focus areas, only one specialization is mandatory. Participation in practical training and fieldwork is also required. Utah State University's early childhood education program stands out by allowing students to begin working with children during their first year, unlike most institutions where such experience typically starts in the junior year. Upon graduation, students will have accumulated over 600 hours across eight distinct practical training sessions. The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at USU ranks among the top 10 education colleges nationally for external research funding.
