The early childhood education (ECE) program equips graduates to support diverse young learners and families through research-backed, age-appropriate teaching methods. This NAEYC-accredited teacher preparation program focuses on children from infancy through age five, incorporating hands-on learning, evaluations, and classroom practicums in birth-to-pre-K environments. ECE students gain expertise applicable across various early learning settings, including emergent curriculum programs, public school Pre-K, private childcare, faith-based initiatives, and community organizations. The program also prepares graduates for non-teaching roles like early intervention specialists, case workers, nonprofit positions, and curriculum developers. Qualified students can pursue Alabama's Birth-to-PreK Child Development Certificate for public Pre-K teaching. A semester-long internship is required for this major.
