Utah State University's Department of Special Education and Counseling regularly earns recognition as one of the nation's top 20 education programs from U.S. News and World Report.
Graduates with special education degrees from USU are in high demand among school districts throughout Utah and nationwide. The university boasts perfect employment rates for its special education graduates, with numerous students securing positions prior to graduation.
The department provides exceptional learning and training experiences for those pursuing careers with children and adolescents who have disabilities. The curriculum equips students to support individuals with varying disability levels, from mild to severe, including young children with special needs. Practical experience is available through partnerships with local schools and on-campus initiatives.
The special education program is available both traditionally on the Logan Main Campus and online statewide through the OPTT program, designed for working para-professionals or teachers in Utah.
On the Logan campus, many students combine special education with Elementary Education, allowing graduates to qualify for dual certification in both fields.
Degree candidates fulfill all major requirements for a BS degree, with BA candidates additionally demonstrating foreign language proficiency. The OPTT program also offers pathways toward graduate-level studies.
