Modern English programs provide a broader selection of courses, subjects, and research opportunities than in previous years. While traditional literary classics and renowned authors remain central to the curriculum, contemporary offerings now encompass film and media analysis, rhetorical and technical writing, digital humanities, critical cultural studies, and creative writing seminars. Learners can specialize in these fields and collaborate with academic advisors to design a personalized study plan aligned with their aspirations. UWM's Master of Arts program requires coursework, a thesis project, and an oral defense. Students must fulfill all degree requirements within five years of starting the program, with the thesis and examination to be completed within one year after earning 30 credits.
