The program is available on-campus through in-person and hybrid course formats.
The MS in Spanish provides comprehensive education in Spanish language, literature, linguistics, and Hispanic cultures, ideal for those aiming to teach in higher education or continue graduate studies. Prospective college instructors should consult their advisor regarding relevant teaching methodology and professional education courses to enhance their instructional abilities. While college teaching doesn't require licensure, pedagogical training is strongly advised. Candidates in this program engage in extensive reading and complete a comprehensive final examination. Their culminating experience involves researching and writing either a Thesis or Alternate Plan Paper. Additionally, participants take World Language Teaching methodology courses and advisor-selected professional education classes. The program strongly recommends pursuing graduate teaching assistantships in Spanish or completing college teaching internships during studies. Offered at the Mankato campus, this MS program also serves international students seeking a U.S. master's degree. Half of the required credits must be at the 600-level (not counting thesis/APP credits).
