The Anthropology Department provides a PhD program structured to deliver comprehensive knowledge across all major areas of the field—including biological, archaeological, and sociocultural anthropology, with both analytical and descriptive approaches—while allowing for focused specialization. This program prepares students for academic careers in anthropology as well as for practical applications that benefit from anthropology's holistic viewpoint. Each student's curriculum covers anthropological theory and methodology, key topics in sociocultural anthropology, archaeology, and physical anthropology, along with specialized subjects aligned with the student's research interests.
The program aims to develop Anthropology PhD graduates capable of teaching at universities while also making meaningful contributions to private industry and policy development across diverse sectors. For instance, over the past decade, we have awarded 13 archaeology PhDs. Among these graduates, five hold teaching positions at colleges or universities, one serves as a museum educator, one works in university research administration, one is employed by a state CRM regulatory agency, and five are Principal Investigators at private-sector CRM companies.
