The SWAN Ph.D. program offers a unique interdisciplinary doctoral degree combining Social Work and Anthropology. Situated in Detroit, our curriculum emphasizes urban challenges with both domestic and international perspectives, delivering comprehensive training in both fields' methodologies, theories, and subject matter. This program prioritizes practical, public-facing, and engaged scholarship. Candidates will develop expertise in transforming academic research into actionable solutions for societal issues. SWAN merges professional social work credentials (M.S.W.) with doctoral-level training in both social work and anthropological sciences. By blending these disciplines' complementary strengths, we've crafted a unified doctoral program. With its urban and global focus, the SWAN Ph.D. stands as an innovative educational paradigm that bridges advanced social science education with professional application.
